The green bin
Recycle for Greater Manchester lists Oldham as using a green bin for food and garden waste. It takes garden waste, cut flowers and twigs and sticks no thicker than your wrist. Soil is not accepted, because the composting plant cannot take it. Check your collection day on Oldham Council's site.
The tip
You can take garden waste to the Arkwright Street tip. If you also bring food waste, keep them separate, and note that food waste cannot be recycled at any recycling centre. Soil counts towards the five-sack rubble limit. A van needs a free van permit.
What the bulky service will not do
Oldham's bulky page says the service is for broken or damaged furniture and electrical items that cannot be re-used, sold or donated. Garden waste, branches and old fencing are not part of it.
